A single-ply roof includes sheets of rubber and other synthetics that are chemically adhered to insulation or ballasted – creating a layer of protection on your commercial roof.

There are two main types of single-ply membrane for commercial roofing. The first is Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO), and the second is Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM). These two types differ in their chemical makeup and energy efficiency, as well as how they are installed on your commercial roof. The largest difference between the two deals with when it is time to adhere the membrane seams together. TPO uses a hot-air gun to melt down the membrane at the seams and adhere them together. EPDM is adhered using seam tape.

The beginning of the installation process for a single-ply roof is fairly consistent, regardless of if MWE Roofing is using a TPO or EPDM single-ply membrane roofing system. After the roofing substrate is prepared, whether by cleaning or removing the preexisting roof, the insulation is installed and covered by a cover board.
